Some contests are like "2 minutes, no controllers, just a laptop - play the sickest stuff with the craziest stage show and punish your computer as much as possible" - and then there are elimination rounds, so you would need 4-5 2 minute tracks or whatever.

Nah, more like "Battle of the ASCII punishers" or something.

I've seen slighty different rules, like "one laptop, one controller, no other external hardware except the audio interface".

Funny you should ask, I played at one last week. I had a fucking blast nerding out with a bunch of other computer musicians. Drunk as hell, going crazy to music... Lots of fun! I didn't get past the first round, but I had so much fun and met so many cool ass people! Fun fun fun fun!
It was elimination style. There was a coin toss for each match to figure out who goes first. Each person is given three minutes to play a track and make it cool and sound good. There was house, trance, d&b, breaks, techno, hip hop, noise, and industrial at my battle. The musicians were incredible, really giving it their everything!
The battle I was in wasn't too serious... Not like a bunch of jocks posturing over their laptops. The people involved seriously looked like they just wanted to have a good time. I wore a tie and 80s headband, some other dude wore a scary mask, and another dude wore a beanie cap he kept spinning through his set. I guess last year when some other guy finished, he smashed an apple on his head as a way to say "fuck apple" or someting... It was really funny.

My friend also threw a beer across the room because he was mad that someone lost who he liked... hahaha
I'd recommend having 4-5 different "tracks" ready for when you move on to the next round. Get drunk, and have a great time! Oh, and we were allowed a laptop, audio interface, and controller. I'd advise you to be as hands on as possible, ALWAYS have your hands busy, and don't look like a stiff... It's your chance to be a rockstar for 3 minutes!
Here is the track I performed for the battle:

Any specific questions, just ask.

The question is do they mix songs together? And play with the FX?
I think you must go prepare like loops- FX........Do they just trigger loops and fx?
Do you guys find this kind of competitions interesting?

I would find it very interesting if people were actually performing, rather than just playing premade tracks. Great fun to participate too.
But with laptops it is of course very hard to see if someone is playing live or just pressing play on a pre made mp3....
