Newbie inquiry:In the session window, How do I make a 1bar loop, say a fill or a crash, into a 2bar loop? I want a crash to sound on every other bar rather than on every bar as it is now. -thanks

if i understand well, you have two options...

arm a new clip in another track, and choose 'master' as input for the new clip. mute all clips except the one you want to edit. start recording and stop the source clip after bar one (or to be more precise, 'just before the end of bar one' if refresh rate (or whatever it is called) is set to 'bar' or whatever, as long as it's not 'off'). stop the recording at the end of bar two...

second option: do it in an external sound editor. just add a bar's length of silence.

hope this is what you're after...

Thanks. Everything else in Live is so intuitive. Seems weird that something so basic is such a hassle.

I also figured out another way but it's ugly. By manipulating a warp marker at the very end of the crash sample you can make the last 32 note slice last one bar. But of course that added bar sounds gnarly.

Rerecording as you suggest is probably a better solution.

Guess I'll move this to the Suggestions Forum.

thanks again

Here's a slightly easier way to do it:
- place the sound you want to add silence to in a track on the arrange screen
- solo that track
- select the range of time you want it to loop over
- File->Render to Disk

This is faster, doesn't rely on your hitting the stop button at the right time, and lets you pick a filename for the "padded" version of the sound rather than auto-assigning one.
