ADAT SYNC VIA BRC USING RME MULTIFACE AND ABLETON PROBLEM

HAs anyone successfully synced multiple adats using a BRC to a multiface 2?
I cannot get ableton to follow the adats. this is the first time that I have tried slaving ableton but it does not want to follow the adats for some reason. I have tried midiclock, I am getting a midi input into the multiface but ableton will not start.
I have also tried miditimecode.
