I'm in a similar situation. I'd say not yet. Wait until the autumn, the dust will have settled on the upgraded mbps (and possible mbs) then.

it depends
what u need to do first is scout the net and try to find out if your DAW (I'm assuming you might not use Ableton only), your plugins (synths, effects, mastering, etc) and other bits and bobs have been updated to Universal Binary.
If the result is satisfactory to you, then yes, by all means.
However, if for example you use lots of NI products or Cubase etc, you might want to wait cause a MacBook (or Pro) will only give you lots of agro once you realise you got nothing to work with!
The good news is that lots and lots of software companies have updated their products over the past 3 months - however, do check your products beforehand.

I actually did sell my powerbook to buy the macbook. I am completely happy with my 2.16ghz 15". I have upgraded the ram to 2gigs and the thing is absolutely incredible. Live and Logic Express run flawless, I can't wait to see how Live 6 runs on 2 processors. I say do it, but if a new revision comes out in august, wait and buy then. This is the most powerful machine i have ever owned. and it is a laptop. INCREDIBLE.

I like the MBP... for live it is a very sexy machine and can handle far more tracks the the PB.

And think of it this way...the more you wait to sell it, the more it will lose its reselling value. People know that the old macs are sort of "condemned to die" because of the change of platform.

well, since you asked....
devil's advocate for a moment:
i don't think it's worth selling a mac pb if you bought it new and it functions properly. i feel they've lost their value to the point where you are better off having an extra computer than losing half your investment.....so i'd say keep it.
powerbooks are still great, reliable computers.....it'll be a few years until they're useless....all tech gets outdated eventually.
you could use it for video, or to run vsti's off midi for example.
i'd at least wait for the 15" mp to have 800 speed firewire and a few other updates...

gotta go with dk on this. (mainly cause I've got a 2.16 w/ 2g of ram) and I don't like seeing anybody with something I don't have.

but really he's got a point and that's where I'm at. Eventually the MBPro will be the way i go, but for now I use way too much NI, I'm way too broke, and I think if I had more power I'd just spend more time dicking around with theoretical probability than actually composing music.
ie: "I wonder what 200 reverbs through soundflower into msp filtered for conversion to midi cc data, fed back into live and used to control the cutoff of the sound of my butt would sound like?" mmmmmmm?

I have a powerbook 1.5Ghz and a macbookpro 2.0Ghz,and i am not going to sale the pbook,it is good machine,i will keep it in case if something goes wrong with the macbookpro. It is like to have an old GIBSON guitar.

Having 2 computers is pretty nice. It used to confuse me a bit... where did I put that file????
But I'm so used to having two that I don't think I could go back. So maybe hang on to the PB.
I'm going to hold off on buying a MacIntel for as long as I can stand it. It's going to take RME card compatibility and a FW800 port on the 15" to get me to pay up.
