I think the jury is out on whether it improves performance. Basically, with the .kext, the CPU is slowed until it is needed. Without it, the CPU runs at full speed all the time. This will shorten battery life, and the macbook pro will run a little hotter.

I need to test in fact if it is necessary, but I don't have it removed, and have very few problems. There's an issue I have with one scene that causes a glitch, but i think that's more to do with memory than CPU, because if i play it a second time, it's fine.

I have boot camped my MBP, and I get the same results in Windows as I do in OSX with the .kext removed.

hope that helps

I have 2Gb as well, also got the RAM button pressed for all the clips that are audio...

Wonder if it's because some are 16bit and some are 24bit, in which case the on-the-fly resampling could be causing a processor hit.

Hard to test this, because if I play it once, it's fine after that.

I have had glitches with my Vaio (Centrino) as well in throtteled mode. When the cpu runs on full speed, I don't have any problems.

Hopefully Apple will give a possibility to switch to full speed without having to remove a kext.
