Recommend an external hard drive?

Can anyone recommend me a decent external hard drive that they use with Live for my G4 Powerbook (usb and firewire are both options)?
Looking to spend a maximum of €250.

i highly recommend seagate (dead silent) or if not then maxtor and stick it in a dual connex (firewire / usb2.0) icy box, the icy box has a oxford chipset and works flawlessly with mac firewire / usb 2.0 and has a sexy rugged metal design.
just make shure the drive is 7200rpm.
my advise is stay away from Lacie or WD.
if you are willing to spend more get Glyph drives, they are unbeatable for audio, but don't come cheap.

My LaCie died in two years (turns out that's pretty common). We'll see how the Maxtor does, but I'll probably shell out for a Glyph eventually...overpriced as they are...

on a tip from a video editor, i got a g-raid dual 160 raid 0 drive, it's killer. hitatchi drives, premium chipset....

they also make a silent single drive unit, 250.00 u.s.

p.s. i would get a glyph funds allowing, apparently the cost covers data recovery under the waranty...

I suggest you to cconsider "secondary" factors such as noise level and HD heat. I tell you this because ALL ext. HD uses Oxford 911+ chipset (FireWire 400) and Prolific 2507 chipset (USB 2.0 High Speed). And ALL ext. HD contains 7200 RPM disks with 9-11 ms access time. So, more or less, every ext. HD has the same speed (1Mb/sec of range). I could suggest you Seagate products, they use Barracuda Hard Drives...great HDs.

I've got the older model. Looks like it was built for Live!!! It's a black "book" shaped drive, with a lit green ring.
There is a newer silver and blue model which look ssmart - but black n' green lloks cooo-ooo-oool!!!
Oh - and the performance it shit-hot too!

Here's my .02
While there are technical differences in the way FW and USB work (data selivery, system useage) that makes FW the better choice on paper...I can say that in the real world I have experienced no difference between the two. (Note that I am reffering to USB 2 here; USB 1 will give considerably slower performance than FW 400).
Personally, I've been using a Maxtor USB2 HD since my FW LaCie died, and everything's been exactly the same. I actually have a FW G-Drive on order right now though, because I need the extra USB port for my midi controller.
