Never tried that.
I got it about 8 years ago, it was a Daft Punk concert when I had flu that set it off although I guess I'd been abusing my hearing long before that.
Got sent to the hospital for tests by my doc. The hospital confirmed what I had and said there was nothing I could do about it. Luckily I always end up living somewhere noisy, so I only notice it if I'm away from home.

HOW CAN I GET RID OF IT????
the audiologist of the company I'm working for (hearing aids) told me tinnitus is psycologlical.
I was astonished, I always thought it was physical, but it seems it's not.
I have it too, in the last months it's going always better, I have heard of ppl who simply lost it from one day to the other, so do not give up hope.
Once you have tinnitus your brain is telling you to pay attention to your ears in order not to permanently damage them, that is why we get tinnitus.
Try not to think about it seem to be the first advice of audiologist... but it's not easy!
I found that having some background music when waiting to fall asleep in the evening does the trick, i have a more or less 30 dB tinnitus and playing music at around the same level cover the whistling very good (30 dB is more or less loud like when you whisper to give an idea).

I've had it for 2 years already, got it after years of raving and then being too close to the speaker at Norman Jay's system at Notting Hill Carnival.
I gave up hope of finding a "cure" after a couple of months of frantic searching. Never went to see a doctor about it though, maybe I should...
Sine getting it I wear proper ear plugs whenever I go out somewhere even a bit noisy, like bars etc but ALWAYS when i'm in a club or by a big soundsystem.
As far as I know its caused by damaged/missing hairs in your inner ear that pick up sound, when they arent giving the brain signals it makes up the missing information - giving the ringing effect. I think it is both physiological and psychological, and I think can be overcome through the mind alone.
However I also recently found out about the soft laser treatment, Tinnitool
I am planning to see a specialist soon to see if that treatment is ok for me. The guy who sells it says he used it himself and now he rarely gets it. Its supposed to help most sufferers. Whether he speaks the truth or not I dont know... so if anyone knows of this treatment would be good to hear.
Anyway peoples, bottom line is protect your ears before its too late. I was never educated about the damage of loud sound systems, but people are wising up now.

never protected my ears during concerts, until i had tinnitus. yes, you can consider it as a sort of warning, but i doubt it is psychological. but coping with it is a psychological game too. it drove me mad the first weeks. every night i just HAD to listen to it. but now... i got used to it, it doesn't affect my life quality. i don't know how loud it is and how bad i have it. but i definitely don't want it louder.
it's scary when i have a temporary (louder) ringing in my ear after a concert (f.e. the concert of the strokes was soo loud, even with ear plugs). the feeling of those first weeks tinnitus come back and you think that this louder ringing might stay too.
my father is ear specialist/doctor - he said the only thing he can tell patients is to get used to it and to protect their ears. of course, people are experimenting with special treatments and stuff... it's a business like any other.

Tinnitus sucks, if you are younger and get it you may be able to get rid of it over time, I had it before I started playing with earplugs and it was realy annoying, took a year or so to not be noticeable anymore.
What used to work for me was never being in a to quiet room, have an oscilating fan on all the time, or some background music, I allways had big aquariums (Ciclid nerd) and the circulation pumps made just enough noize to take over the whining when falling asleep.
