I recently turned on my comp, a black screen came out and said:
file is missing or corrupt: <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

Didnt know what to do so i turned it off and turned it on again. This time the black screen was there with no words for about 2 minutes. Finally windows booted up. I followed something i found online which advised me to
go to system repair tool, (the dos looking thing).
type windows cd destination:
D:
cd i386
copy ntldr c:
c:
fixboot c:

i followed the order of commands and it seemed to work for now. Again the comp started up slow as fuck, took like 3 minutes. But once its started up it works fine. As you can see i am barely computer literate, I just know how to use music software. I can barely surf the internet, any help would be appreciated.. Thanks!

Oh dear, It could be a problem with your firewall blocking access to the file Try lowering the firewall settings and try that. But I think you have most probably got a missing or corrupted file which is not good. It is an important windows system file. You could try reloading your version of windows, and it might correct the problem. If not take a look here for help.

p.s, I forgot to mention, try system restore first, because if the file is simply misplaced, there is a strong chance that rolling back to a previous date when the system was in good working order will fix the problem.

back up everything important & run chkdsk /p /f /r

it will locate bad sectors and recover readable information.

it may be a sign of hardware failure or just the os writing corrupt data to the disk.

good luck.
