Hey, I'm a new face here so excuse me if this has been posted before. I'm having a complete waste of time trying to get these two apps to behave.

First of all, GS3 runs in two modes, stand alone and rewire. Every time I launch Live, unless GS3 is first setup as a rewire device, where it should get easily slaved within the host sequencer, I get a message reminding me if it where setup as a rewire device, live would need to be launched first.

If I do run GS3 in rewire mode, even when Live is launched first, I cannot find it as a possible midi-to device in Live, while one other app, like floops studio is listed.

(hope I haven't lost half the room already)

Here's where it gets interesting. If I try to launch GS3 first as a stand alone GSIF app, configure Live as its preferred sequencer, and then start Live. - Everything appears to go great, until I attempt to actually record something, which I have to do from within GS3's capture procedure. This has absolutely spotless results in other sequencing software, so I'm wondering if the problem lies within digital sync or problem using GSIF and a different audio source while also running Live. Using this method, I do get audio, but the levels are completely off the map.

I do have two audio sources, Echo Indigo/NI Kore and this is on a laptop. Also worth noting, as stand alone I use the Indigo for GS3 (only one which works in GSIF) And in all cases Kore is used as the audio source for both sequencers tested. Also, I'm passing through the outputs of the Kore into the Echo, monitoring most the time and only using it (Echo) with GS. So I don't see how any signal path issues would be a problem. Any help would be welcome.

i suggest you are working with Live 5.2 and GS with the lastest Patch 3.12 applied (if not, do that).

It is important to understand that Tascams "GSIF" is a very special designed driver which is only useful when making connections from GS to external soundcards. Live is working with ASIO, GS does not.

To solve your "problem":

1. You can set up GS not to use external hardware (configuration). Also be shure to uncheck "disable" Rewire. Make shure that you have at last 2 Rewire Cannels an 2 Midi channels selected (in Rewire Configuration)

2. Then start GS 3 in Standalone mode. You see "Rewire Mode" in the lower pane. Load instruments to midi track 1.

3. Select Rewire 1/2 as Main output. Save this performance.

4. Start Live first, then GS3. Put some midi data to an empty midi track. In Lives Midi To select GIGASTUDIO (or something like Giga) as the desired ouput. In the channels dropdown you can select the instruments in your GS performance.

5. If you start Live, you will hear nothing...

6. To hear the output from GS you have to make an Audio Track in Live with the GS Rewire outputs selected as input. Switch Monitor to IN, now you should hear the "results".

I use GS without any GSIF drivers, and no "Hardware", no Quicksound aso. Works stable !

Hello, thanks for the quick reply. Yes to the latest versions and have tried rewire mode as you suggested. Was missing startup mode checkbox "no hardware" Have usually ran this as stand alone

My only problem with using Rewire, is (at least with my experience) the instruments tend to break up and samples cut off prematurely. Also, even with GSIF, running standalone never gave me problems with my previous sequencer/setup.

After loading GS config manager and with some tweaks I have gotten GS passable as rewire, however now I get no signal when I try rendering these tracks as audio in Live. They play semi-fine when triggered via midi within Live. I assume the main benefit from running GS as a rewire device (same hardware) is so that it can render quickly from midi to audio?

But again, even playing GS this way is not as smooth as using non-rewire. Might your hardware be the difference? In my particular case, I would really prefer using Kore as my audio device in Live, although truthfully, the latency is better on the Indigo.

I'll keep working with it.... Please let me know if you think of anything else, or if I'm missing something obvious. Might just wait until sampler is released... I believe it takes Gig files.

Works. I think "auto" wasn't switched on for the respective midi track.

good to hear that it works "semi stable". The checkbox "No Hardware" is located somewhere in the diagnostic settings of the GS3 configuration manager.

Sound: With GS3 in combination with Live you have to think different. If GS3 is rewired with Live as a Rewire Slave there is no more GSIF. Means, for sound, Latency aso. you have to fiddle around with the ASIO settings of your soundcard and Live.

So check the asio settings of your soundcard and Live (latency...)

Rewire itself is a very stable way to make connections between audio applications.

I think that your "problems" are somewhere in the ASIO, buffer... area.
