I think this one will be quite interesting
-----------------------------------------------------------------
*[03] Bug: Playing clip via note-range*
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Playing a clip via note-range from an external MIDI keyboard would not work.
Status: Fixed

-----------------------------------------------------------------

almost like gaining a feature for me! I never found a good way of using the audio clip version of this feature, while the midi version sounds like it should be more entertaining.
Transposing riffs while a scale plug keeps them on key. could be good.
gotta get this work out of the way and get playing!

And the interesting thing is it is there since Live 4, I guess. It was only broken in 5.2. :)

Best,
Amaury

well, prior to 5.2 I didn't actually know you could do it. Crazy really because I used to read that manual all the time in "moments of relaxation" yet there are always bits I managed to miss it seems.

when I did finally try it in 5.2 - it didn't work. well, I better download 5.21 and see what I was missing eh!

Update - I love this feature!
it's like a super duper polyphonic arpegiator vibe.

I played a bad electric piano part along to a beat, copied it a few times and doubled the speed of the midi clip set some to legato mod, set some others to clip start - 8th note. I put a scale plugin on the track to keep it all in tune then played about for half an hour! great fun.

marvelous.

Freakin SWEET, that was actually one of the first things I tried back when getting started with live and I was sad that you could only do this with audio.

Definately like getting a whole new feature, edit in a complex arp sequence, throw a scale plugin on and define a note range and play the clip was one thing I wanted, also perfect for experimenting with bassline progressions walking over the main chords etc..

Just downloaded and installed update. Novation Instrument freeze seems to be fixed. Can now use Automap and select instrument simply by clicking on the track column that contains it.

NB: You have to click on each instrument first before Novation recognises them automatically. Wonder if this will be improved in Live 6?

What a relief, only just got the Novation SL 37 this weekend, spent most of Sunday trying to figure out why it was not fully working, was driving me mad until I got on to the forum and found a discussion about this issue.

Thanks

It hadn't even occurred to me to try this until recently and I was disappointed to see it didn't work. Now that it is working in 5.2.1 I agree that this is a very musical and useful feature. Great for generating complex realtime transpositions of phrases and just jamming. In combination with the scale plugin and the various clip launch modes this is a lot of fun.

1. record a midi clip
2. go into midi mapping mode
3. select the clip
4. hold down a midi note, keep it held down, then press another note

Now you've got the clip mapped to a range of midi notes and it will transpose along with the note you play when you trigger it. If you add in a scale plugin it will automatically transpose within the scale you select.

same here, possibly a mac thing. It also crashes sometimes when I press save... ultra annoying.
