Hey, I don't know if anyone else out there has been having trouble with the blaster and sobig viruses that have been going around, but I've been hit with both. Just a reminder to all Windows users to take precautions, go to the microsoft site, get the latest security patches, etc . . . But you all probably did that already, right?

Also, its prbobably a good time to back up your hard drive and burn your files to cd or whatever you use. I bet some of these viruses will get vicious pretty soon. and you don't want to lose any of the hits you're creating with Live.

Download all the latest windows updates. If yer using XP or something you can use the Windows update tool.

The reality is that Windows is a sieve, filled with holes. Microsoft leaves all these openings in its system. WU will save you from known problems but good luck with tomorrow's virus/worm/trojan/spyware/malware!

or you can pay $70 for norton anti-virus, surf at ease, have no problems with your system (i haven't even done the updates and don't have a reason to). I understand that mac users hate windows and jump on ANY opportunity to dis it (probably 'cause your bitter that Live works SO much better on a pc), but the fact is that many of us have no problems, we just optimize things for audio, and use the proper anti-virus stuff--its not rocket science, its actually easy, and I've had no problems, just fun. to each his own, but wholesale slagging of xp as crap, when it actually works quite well for me and others, is just a bunch of bickering and bitter bs. I bet even macs get viruses and need firewalls and protection when their on the web, don't act like macs are ablove all that.

I was shocked -- nay, flattened -- with the feature article in the October 2003 issue of Computer Music.

Reading page 40, it looks like a dual 2 GHz G5 is actually cheaper than a DIY (self-built) dual Xeon or Opteron PC for the audio performance you get.

I couldn't believe my eyes when reading this, especially coming from a Windows-centric rag like CM.

Really though, I have been running my mac for quite some time on a cable connection which is always on and I have yet to see one virus. I run a firewall and scan regularly, for the past year, with NAV and I can honestly tell you I have not encountered a single virus. Not one.

I have even considered uninstalling NAV.

It seems that the majority of viruses are written for windows platforms and that is just one of the reasons I love my mac.
