i just discovered the coolest thing ever:

- Drag a .MOV file into arrangement view in Live 6

- Bracket the resulting clip

- Render to disk

....are you following me yet?

you can now rip the audio out of any video file in literally minutes, no hassle ... just convert to .MOV with any available decent converter

no more 3rd party programs (other than conversion). no more routing your soundcard and screwing with levels

download, convert, rip simple: sample nirvana

This is killing me! I was literally about to start extensively sampling my DVDs - I may just do the bare minimum now and hold out...

That is really cool.

Can anyone recommend a good free program to convert other formats into .MOV (for WinXP)?

That sounds sweet.
I usually have to fiddle around with a DAT recorder when I record snippets from videos. :D

QT pro has always worked well for me, but its not exactly free... ;)
However, FFmpeg and VLC are free and can also rip .vob files into .mov files.

these are for osx, not sure bout windows versions.

Used to be that if you wanted to watch TV you had to stare at a television set. Then came YouTube and suddenly you could watch minutes upon minutes of entertaining programing right there on your computer. Now, with Live 6, you can watch your favorite shows as you mix! Hey! Turn down that Grain Delay! I'm trying to watch Sanford and Son!
