I am currently using the Tascam US2400 with live. This is just a 24 fader controller, but it works great and was semisimple to configure.

Keep looking around... there is a cheaper price out there.

I got the fw1814. I wouldn't call it intuitive, and the drivers were semit annoying to work with on a mac.

The design is pretty incredible but a little haphazardous. You can accidently hit a button in this unit that will make your next few hours feel like an evening synching the stock Sam Ashe's synthesizers to Logic on Acid.

I got mine used for just over what you are spending. I might hold out. Also, I would see the virtue in going the US2400 route and then purchasing a seperate, more portable audio interface. If portability is a concern, I would recommend grabbing a cheap, used BCF 2000 or Faderfox for gigging. BTW, the faders really are inspiringly smooth, though they seem to do a weird thing everytime you bootup live, and ll majke a sudden jolt. I don't believe this effects the unit in the long run.

The stumbling block here is that the Tascam US2400 has been discontinued.

i use an 1884 and love it. never had a problem once. mackie control emulation works great, and most (definitely not everything) does what it's supposed to. check tascamforums.com for more opinions. one great feature is that it works as a mixer too, so i just keep everything plugged in, and with the touch of a button you can go back and forth from controlling live, to mixing all your outboard gear.

Until you stumble upon really cheap on ebay, but for compatability with future technlogy I may see your point.
