Is anyone else feeling that thier expensive sequencers (sx,logic etc)are becoming more redundent as the days are going on. Live is becoming more the studio workhorse for all operations, i know cubase is good for mastering but again the mastering can be done in soundforge etc, as all pugins needed can be accessed here too.

I think it would be good to have some kind of donation programm, where you can send all your redundent software (boxed, serials etc) to a charity scheme, where it can help kids from problematic backgrounds use, train and produce in music technology.

This gives the kids something to aspire to keeps them out of trouble, drug use, crime etc, brings them back into society and on route to a normal lifestyle and career..

but those problem kids are currently downloading cracked software and their favorite hiphop albums and starting new labels with burned cdr's they don't need donations.

and makin better music than 90% of us too...

Im talking about kids families etc, who dont have money to buy computers for downloading illegal cracks...Like somekind of building where they can meet, engineers, musicians donate sometime teach them...

Well here in Glasgow Scotland, it would be great, after all we have just been voted the roughest city in europe, so obviously theres nothing for these kids to do!!

not yet, 6 is great, really great and highly improved, but it will be still a few years untill it fully replaces Logic in my case, there are still to many 'open' issues. (missing funtions, possibilities)

but Live is getting there slowely but shurely.

just an opinion from my view / needs.

and all i really use is Logic / Live / Peak and very occasionally Recycle. and all of them have there place and use at a time, so no redundancy here yet.

i think this is great idea!
i would like to do this but the only problem is, im broke! i was looking into grants here in michigan but i can not find a grant for this type of service.
most grants go to non profit oranizations and i have no clue how to start a non profit organization here in michigan.. if any one knows or has a link on how to get started please post!!

I discovered live a week ago, i was using cubase/sonar/reason and now i don't use
them anymore, live has everything i need and it does his job better than the others.

Why ?

Usability.
Nothing is comparable to Live's usability and ease of use, a small example:
I have a axiom 49 midi keyboard with a integrated controller; mapping controls to
cubase and vsts and other controls was pain in the arse, it took ages to prepare a
stage and play to me.
Live has the best midi mapping option, i can click midi, select the control, move my
knobs and there we go, i was impressed, really really nice, and all my vsts controls
are accessible and easy to automate.

So yeah, i agree with the opener, just keep live and donate the other stuff

How about this project: People donate their software licenses and so on, the items are auctioned off for this charity, while sponsorships are found with the major players, so that the organization, in time, would be able to help users with basic midi kit, cheap pcs and such, bought in bulk, fully tax-deductible, organized by musicians, who set up events where these youths (love that word) can play their stuff to the drunken crowds.

My life life is redundant but that's not a bad idea

and in reality you could probably get that going in a neighborhood near you - at the rec center or community center

They teach a class on Reason at the community college - you only need one license to teach 10 kids - 10 cheap computers and some sound equipment (Speakers and what not) midi keyboards and the such

They need to sort out that crossfader before it replaces Logic.

In the US...

...talk to any local youth center etc and they'll know exactly how to organize this.

Just tell them what you can provide a source for and they'll know exactly how to pitch for funding anything else.

I've found that most of these types of orgs don't have a problem "getting stuff" - they need "your time and your chops" more than anything.

And so do the kids....

I've found that their "so called criminal behavior" has more to do with a "shining example of an adult that REALLY gives a shit about them" than not having things.
