Probably a stupid question but can iTunes Music Store downloads be played on Ableton, as they are MP4 ?

Do they need converting and if so how can this be done ?

Thanks in advance

No you can't. You have to convert the files, most preferably into wav or aif. This can only be done by burning the tracks on a cdr, and reimporting afterwards.
(Or maybe you can use the software mentioned above, but I did not try until now).

Live 6 can play aac/mp4-files, but not the DRM-crippled ones from itunes music store.

Play the track in iTunes, and record it straight into Live with Soundflower: http://www.cycling74.com/products/soundflower

Jhymn works great as long as you haven't purchased any music from the iTunes Store using version ITunes vers. 6.

Version 5 and below is fine but they changed the copy protection with version 6 and once you purchase ANY music (or I believe even connect to the iTunes Store) using 6 you're screwed.

You can uninstall Ver. 6 and back track to an earlier version but you need to set up a new account etc.

Read the Jyhmn Forum for more information.

BTW if you can't tell, I got caught out in the V. 6 update.

In iTunes normally you are allowed to make a CD copy of your purchased material.
Burn a CD copy of your tracks then re-import the tracks as WAV / AIFF using another app. You can then play your tracks in Live.
