M-Audio Transit USB problems

I'm just getting into Live, with a BCR2000 (rocks) and an M-Audio Transit USB (sucks)

It keeps cutting out. I'll be in the mix having a wicked time, and the sound cuts out with no warning. Sometimes if I restart the track or just press the space bar, it'll start up again, other times I'll have to close Ableton and unplug the device from the USB port and plug it back in. It's not just Ableton-speficic either, eg mp3s won't play in foobar2000. Terribly frustrating. I've got the latest drivers from the M-Audio website and all that.

Any other people out there using this piece of junk who have been able to remedy this problem? I'm using Windows XP SP2 on my Dell laptop.

M-Audio Transit is USB 1. Too slow to handle the audio. Return it and get another card. I used a Transit first and audio dropouts would start at about 35-40% processor load (this was in FL Studio). Then I got an Echo Indigo DJ and FL Studio would play fine up till 90-95% processor load. With for the rest exactly the same setup.

Transit is no good for music production. I use it for the occasional recording or to listen to mp3's. It's good for that because I think it's sound quality is ok.

Unfortunately I live outside of the US so M-Audio won't deal with me directly. The local distributor in New Zealand for M-Audio is useless and hasn't been any assistance at all.

radio.activity = thank you for your comments. I will look into another brand, I think I'll avoid M-Audio after reading more comments on this forum.
