Ah, who cares if a few million people will be left homeless or die, and if many species disappear? As long as the US is richer and Bush and his buddies can keep kicking the rest of the world in the butt through manipulation, lies, and/or threats, who cares, right? [Strong sarcasm, BTW]

The current Bush administration is run by evangelical christians. I suspect they want global warming because it can be interpreted as some sort of bibical flood tantamount to Noah's Ark, perhaps. What is of most concern is that they believe in the book of Revelation. If you read the book has a strong apocolyptic discourse running through it (note Riders of the Apocolypse), in which the all will be 'judged'. Remember they believe in life after death...

Yessiree lot of rich, powerful & well connected rapture index watchers connected to this administration.
What real influence they have over policy is debatable, but a few Israeli sources are becoming a little worried with the act that some of these powerful figures are wanting to rush us into that extended period of war centering on Armageddon (located within Israel).
Read a real interesting article in Z-mag the other year written by a dude who travelled around infiltrating the hardcore (& even plenty of not so hard core) fundamentalist organisations & churches who are firm believers in the 'rapture' - he originally did it to attempt to understand how these blue collar working christian voters could have voted Bush back in when his policies discriminated against the U.S. working class so blatantly.
Anyways their views on the environment & all that, fuelled by the sermons of their preachers scared the shit out of him.
Remember the earth shall 'be as glass' apparently - some interpret that to mean glass like as in post nuclear melted landscapes.
Whoever actually wrote revelations ate some bad shrooms maaaaaan!!!

The sad thing though, is that it really has nothing to do with Bush or any administration for that matter. What I mean is, we can aknowledge it all we want (or not in the case of our current leadership), but the bottom line is not "is it for real?" but rather "what can be done about it?"

And I don't think the second question has an answer. Fact is, America already has pretty strict rules when it comes to pollution and such. Yet take a look into say, China's ever-expanding coal refineries - and the pollution they suffer under because of it. They don't have any of the types of environmental regulations we have, nor are they concerned at all about alternative energy sources for the future.

America can't save the planet here. Whether our administration comes clean about this problem or not is a minor detail in the big picture. Hate to sound bleak, but the environment's f*cked, and there's really nothing that can be done about it...
