Alternative Live controllers

I just came up with a good idea for a midi controller in my setup for live.DR-202 BOSS drum machine works amazingly for live triggering of clips. Its got 13 pads that can take pounding and 6 functional knobs three of which send same data unfortunately. With a push of a botton(bass botton) you get another channel of pads to trigger and they send note data.Whith shift+bass you get yet another channel at your disposal. That way you get 39 bottons controllers at your fingertips to assign to whatever.
Here is what it looks like:

So, if you have an old peice of gear laying around somewhere, give it another thought.

Got one here, buyed it a long time ago as a drumunit, but now it's a briljant midi/pad controller. Sadly off the 3 knobs who sends the same mididata and the value wheel that can't be used.
But the pads are very nice (unfortunately not touchsensitive)

I've got an old DR-202, and the SP-202 sitting in the attic. I've been meaning to get them out and set them up...
Shame about the knobs...

A pair of jumper cables and a 2x4 tethered to exercise bike.
heh...
Just use any midi interface that suites your needs. An m-audio 2x2 midisport thingy should work well.

Nope, dont think its possible, but when you select MIDI Volume - DRUM on your DR202 en then turn the Jog Wheel you'll record the midi volume. Maybe usefull for automation recording...
If it puts out midi I can help you

I am building a stand alone "free" vst that will allow you to map any controller coming in to the mackie control emulation.
Then you could just assign that wheel to the jog function as well as some of the other knobs and buttons to midi, for say transport controls.... etc.
It is still in development but I am looking for people to help me test .
pm me if interested.

Got the jog wheel working as an encoder/rotary!!! Try this:
1) Press Portamento on the DR-202
2) Press > (Right Arrow on DR-202) to select "Portamento Time"
3) Leave DR-202 in Portamento Mode, and the big Orange jog wheel will now act as a rotary (cc 0-127)!
Nice, big rotary!

I've been experimenting with my Alesis SR16 as "pads" for launching clips or programming drum hits. The pads are touch sensitive and can send velocity... but I'm having trouble getting the pads to send consistent note values to Live. If I set up all these different note values, they reset when I switch off the power...
Always thought it would be great if the SR16 ran on batteries... take it to the park and jam on a sunny day... aaaahhh...

I have no idea why I haven't tried this with my trusty old Boss DR670, but I'm a gonna (and it does run on batteries).

D'you know what else is interesting? Programming a drum loop in your drum machine, and playing it into live via midi!
What you have there, folks, is beat-juggling from an external source - no need for any midi loopback devices!!!
And, um, how many user assignable patterns does your Drum Machine have? LOADS!!! That means you can have juggle patterns stored IN YOUR CONTROLLER - and using the pads you can also add hits/parts over the top of the pre-pogrammed juggle sequence.
My God - I've surpised myself there... This is gonna be funkin' nuts!
