Hey peeps,

Can NE1 help with this one. Whilst DJ out with Live 5 I will have 5 channels running. I normally have 2 with different loops playing, which I bring in and out when needed. The other 3 with tracks playing mixing in and out. When a track comes to a drop I will solo this track. The crowd will hear the solo'd track only, which is fine. But once I finish my set and Consolidate and render the trks I play it back and where the solo'ing takes place it doesn't seem to record it. Everyhting will still be playing.

I have tried running it at home for a five minute mix with a few trks and loops playing and solo'ing different channels. Fine through my speakers, trks I hear are solo'd. But listen to it back once recorded and NO SOLO. I check it back before I consolidate it incase it is something happening when I consolidate or render to disk. But no good. EVERY TRK keeps playing.

NE ideas people ????

What about instead of soloing the track you want, you de-activate the other tracks using their "Track Activator" button. I know that the automation of this is recorded when the Global Record Button is highlighted. I have keybaord buttons assigned to the tracks to make it easier.

I use this method as a type of multiple-solo when recording drums from my drum machine, so that i am able to hear a couple of drum tacks, rather than just one or them all.

This is my first post of advice, rather than a question, so i hope you know what i mean. And i also hope it helps. There may be other ways to do it.

Not a bad idea but I will need to deactivate up to 4 Channels at once. So probably would not be possible. I am going to re-download Ableotn and see if it may just be a problem that has arisen, as I can't recall it doing it apart from the last few weeks.

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to get the solo function to record, as it's designed to be external of your recorded music. You could try recording to an external device or setting up a program to record from your master out (you can probably even do this with a second instance of ableton) but both will leave you without a multitrack recording, which kind of defeats the point.

My advice: either deal with and make those edits after the performance, or get a midi device with some faders like a novation zero or BCF, which will make killing 4 channels a single handed affair.

I used a PCR-1 with channel volumes set to the pots, but trying to turn down 3 pots at once is impossible with only 2 hands !!!!!!!! Also I find there is terrible latency if I try to turn down even just 2 at once. Also don't know if U DJ with Ableton ?? If so do U find the crossfader useless. As soon as you move it to A or B ever so slightly the volume drops are terrible, a waste of time really having it !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once I have finished my set, do I need to do the edits there and then ?? When I finish I consolidate the set and then render it to disk. I have tried to get up the sets, once saved but in there mode before the consolidtion. Can;t seem to find them. Do U know where ableton will be saving it ??

Yeah, I don't think soloing is automatable.

However, you can use your F1 keys to mute tracks, so if you need to mute 4 at once, it can be done this way...that's what I do.
