Question about recording vocals from a mic...

So I'm following along the tutorials, and I've gone through all my settings and as far as I know everything is hooked up right. If I start a live session I can press the armed button and hear my voice loud and clear as I speak into my mic. I have a Turtle Beach Catalina soundcard and am using the suggested VISIO wrapper linked to in the tutorial. But when I get to the part in the tutorial where I'm to speak a few words into the mic there is no indication my voice is getting through. The bars don't move and I don't hear my voice through the speakers (is there a way to turn that off BTW because it's kinda disturbing to hear you voice as you speak something from both yourself and your system.)
Anyhow if someone could help me out here I'd sure appreciate it!

I think I figured part of this out after some more searching through the forums here. I need an audio track, and there's not one in the lesson. But this has presented me with new challenges. On starting up Live, selecting Audio, and then arming it I can speak into the mic and the bars move so my voice is getting in. That's awesome, but I noticed that the recording freezes sometimes - what could cause that? Also I don't see where my recording went - all the clips remain empty and there's nothing in either view. I assume I'm doing the recording wrong, so how do I go about doing this correctly? I still haven't found an answer to either of these questions, but will continue to look.
Thanks -

I think I got it all figured out now after much reading and watching. Perhaps I'll make a video tut covering this as it seems other folks have similar issues getting set up.
Later!
