Dell m1210 owners?

Just got my 1210 the other day, and found out what I had hoped wouldn't be the case: The two headphone ports don't really want to be split into cue/master. Has anyone had any luck doing this?
So far, I can get the cue to go out to the mic jack only, by tricking the soundcard into 5.1 mode. This makes the headphones in the jack play cue-selected tracks only, but unfortunately, it also sends twice the signal of the selected tracks to the other ports, making the sound pretty awful.
I feel like I'm almost there, but I don't know where to go next, so I was hoping some others might be in the same predicament.
