it looks a little more flexible. i did a search about the microtrack last week and found a fair few unhappy people. apparently there was a lot of bugs in the firmware initially and i'm not 100% sure they've ironed them out.
if i had the money i'd prolly get one of these..

but i really can't see that happening

i have it, it works. especially now that the drivers have matured.
buy a bigger flash card.
USB 2 or be prepared for the slowness.
it records with very nice quality, even in mp3.
the mic that comes with it isnt eaven bad.

We have a Microtrack here at uni (I'm the technician).
The microtrack works fairly well with the internal mic, but not so with other mics - there's lots of noise. It also only really works at 44.1k not 96kHz like advertised.
It is nice for its compactness and ease of use. If you want quality instead be prepared to spend £1k GBP on an Edirol R4 or a Fostex FR2.

i think what you are experiencing has something gto do with needing an attenuator
they acuctually say not to use a battery powered mic,but then released a 10db attenuator to remedy the problem.

The attenuator only let you record on one channel (mono). I bought a mircrotrack and had to exchange it because it wouldn't turn on after charging the battery. Pretty good sound quality and very easy to use. 7/10.
