so i was
scratching my eyes out trying to figure out a way to trigger my midi sound randomly without having to record a live performance of me tapping on my keyboard. i stumbled across the scale plugin and figured it all out.
first i set up my piano roll to trigger operator on every beat that i wanted it to ever possibly play on. then i added a random midi effect device before operator and set it up so there's only 1 choice (add) and a 50% chance of a hit. then i inserted a scale device between the random and the operator. i only wanted to play a C so i set it up so a C# simply gets trapped with no output - just deselect the C# box in the scale device. now there's a fifty percent chance a C will make it through. worked like a charm! there's probably an easier way to do this, but i sure couldnt find it...

Good idea!
I've done the same thing by letting the Random output remotely select different clips, some of which can be blank.

Hi, looks interesting. How can this be done ? As far as i know, random can change only pitch ... or ?

Route the randomly selected note out of Live and back in via a virtual MIDI interface (IAC driver, MIDI Yoke), and MIDI map the incoming note to a clip, scene, effect, or whatever you want to control... even another Random effect!

I may be bit dumb but i can´t understand ... can i control with random effect for example pitch of any audio file ? Or filter resonance in operator preset ?
Can you please make very small als with controlled Live 5 device ( operator / impule ) and clip /scene ? Thanks !

Absolutely! Send the output of a MIDI track with a Random Effect to a virtual MIDI interface (IAC driver built into OSX, or the PC equivalent). Now use that MIDI output as an input, MIDI mapped to any parameter you want. If you want to send random curves/sweeps, map the incoming MIDI mapped note to a CC curve that you've mapped to the parameter you want to control.

uff ... i have 1 midi track with random effect, then i have 1 audio track with and audio file. I set midi out on a midi track to Midi Yoke channel 1. On audio track i can´t set "midi in". So now i puch Midi edit button and want to randomly change a transpose of this audio clip but nothing happens ...

MIDI map a CC number to the Transpose knob in the clip's Sample section, just as if you were going to change the pitch with that knob (which you can still do, by the way!)
Now make a variety of single MIDI clips containing the CC value you want to change the pitch with. For example, CC=64 leaves the pitch unaltered, 47 lowers the pitch by 12 semitones, 69 raises it 4 semitones, etc. Spin the knob on your MIDI controller, and note which CC values change the Transpose amount to the required value.
Trigger each of these CC clips with a MIDI note that you've sent from the MIDI Random effect. For example, if the Random effect generates an A#3, that corresponds to launching the CC=69 clip, which raises the pitch by 4 semitones.
They're basically MIDI dummy clips. I can do this stuff, I just can't explain it!

And if i don´t have MIDI controller ?

You'll need a MIDI controller to assign a CC to the Pitch knob. AFAIK, there's no other way to do it.
