Vocoder Recomendations needed.

Looking into a vocoder.
1. I must be able to control the carrier (playable with a keyboard) and
2. have realtime Modulator input (via mic)

The Reason Vocoder sounds good but won't do #2...
and
Orange Vocoder V1 won't do #1.

Is the NI Vocator good? Has anyone used the Orange Vocoder V2?

Any other decent options? (I would LIKE to keep it running through Live if possible, but I am open to recomendations for a hardware version like the MicroKorg.

The Korg ms2000 or the Electrix Warp Factory are ones that I like. I currently have the Warp Factory.

MDA is as good as any vst vocoder I know of on the mac.

The all-in ones (vokator robotronic orange VC, etc...) make it easier, but they don't sound any better.

The only vocoder I know that sounds better is the Imageline one, but it's PC only...

I have the MDA version loaded and it seems to pop quite a bit.

(Had a Warp Factroy and I couldn't make it work...)

Thanks for the help.

Tricky question.
Tested some software ones, but they all sound so harsh and thin.
But that's not the subject :)
Since i have set my hopes on getting a EMS voc.

Ontopic
Think the akai vocoder does quite a nice job tho.

What do you mean you could not get it to work? It's own internal synth makes it a breeze to effect. There are several templates in the manual so you can at least get rolling with various settings. Was it just broken?

I got the internal to work, but I needed to input my own carrier, and it never worked.

It sure was nice LOOKING, though. :)

The Warp Factory hasn't been beat for cheap hardware vocoding.
I actually thought it was too clear + nice at first & didn't really start digging it until I got good at artfully dumbing it down. The sibilance can be intense and crazy shrill.
Most of the vocoder sounds I like from the past were made on "inferior" but better-sounding analog rigs, & I guarantee you won't get those sounds right away. And be careful with the internal sounds--they can kill yr speakers, they're amazing. I think they're more now, but they used to be on eBay for $100-$150.

you should try MP3Some's Shapee plugin - http://www.mp3some.co.uk/
it's more of a frequency shaping tool, but after shaping a synth bass to my voice I can confirm it performs as a 100+ channel vocoder very well :)

I have to say, my personal favorite Vocoder is Vokator from NI. Sounds great, and has some really broad sound tools that go beyond the other options here -- makes a great synth as well as effect.
