I'm already a tester, have been for a while. but lets here from the lucky 300.

what was the first thing you tried out and how excited were you when it was better than you dreamed?

i feel luckyyyyy oh so luckkkyyyyy

erm first thing i tried ermmm

erm i think it was the groups then the sampler then fader pickup

groups are genius
sampler is gonna have to be bought
fader pickup makes the sl feel like it always should have (with the magnificent macros too :o)

i love flatten too, i really like to get them midi parts bumped into audio as fast as possible to start screwing them

can i ever go back to v5 after this though?

good work abes!
dave

don't overlook this one, if you don't feel like flattening a track and losing your synth and fx settings you can always freeze it and then copy the clips out of the frozen track onto an audio track!!!!!

and don't forget to notice that you can put racks inside of racks inside of racks!

Sorry for the duplicate, but here's my initial reactions from another thread:

Just started with the beta. My first reaction is that the graphics performance is way better with higher cpu load. Envelopes draw better, zooming is easier, and moving clips in arrange is great. Nice additions to Saturator and Operator. Meters are a nice addition, and the preferences UI is great. Wish I could speak to multi-core support, but I'll get back to you on that one Smile

Now the stuff I need to get used to...
- Sampler isn't "jiving" with me. Too many panes, too many things to learn all at once. I'm gonna give it time, of course.
- Racks are intersting, but I'm not sure yet how to use them. I suppose it would have been helpful to follow all the previous discussions with the initial beta thread, but since I didn't have the beta, I didn't read them. So now I'm going thru all the newbie-ness. Again, I'll give it time, although I must say that racks will be useful...just not sure how to use them yet.
- File management is a bit bizarre. Still figuring it out.

So my initial feeling is that I'd get the upgrade for sure, but I'm not sure if I'll buy Sampler yet...feel free to help me understand why I should. As for the boxed version - I'm still on the fence - I neither have room for 5gb of samples, nor do I want to buy samples unless I can clearly hear how good they are. And if I don't buy Sampler, why should I get the samples?

Anyways, I'm very excited. No crashes yet. Looking forward to the release, and to doing my best to break L6 during the beta period.

Well I spent all day refreshing my browser and BAM there is was so I am one of the lucky few. Ive spent the whole day re doing my djing template for Live 6. I have to say this version is awesome. My original template was eating about 40 to 50% cpu with only 2 tracks running (macbook 1.83) now with live 6 im hitting around 20% with wayyy more going on. Multiple midi mapping pwns my world - I've just started to break the ice with the possibilities. EQ 8, saturator, and Dynamic Tube is great. I slap a dynamic tube on the master for my Djing. The meters are great too, now I can take Live more seriously for production mixing. I have not even touched sampler - and it looks like I will have to redesign my midibox to take advantage of Live 6.

Well, I gotta say I come from guitar backround & I am new to a lot of stuff with midi, kybds etc. I must say I checked out sampler as the first thing & found it very cool! I know nothing of how to do sampling & the like but had been wondering about the debate over do you need a sampler in Live? I haven't read the instruction on sampler yet but I took a quick guitar loop i did, sampled a sml section of it & bang started playing it on my kybd & then arpegiating etc. I'm sure there are many more uses for it yet. But I for one can see i'm gonna need the sampler for projects I have ahead that I want to do. It was very user friendly & quick to get working with it as you come to expect from Live. Loving it so far.....But I have made Live 6 crash twice when trying to scan for VST's......However too much fun so far.....Cheers

installed and have been playing old projects - they work well. I'm still trying to figure out why all my clips, impulse kits, etc. are not showing up in the browser and live devices on the left - it seems something is missing but I've yet to figure out how to make Live 6 see all my Live 5 stuff PLUS the new stuff in Live 6...gotta cruise the boards and see if there is an answer to this.

Otherwise...I like it so far...definitely some new stuff to learn...but reading through the what's new is helping :-)

Same with me on the impulse presets and simpler. And no Sampler presets to mess around with what gives is something wrong. I installed the library folder where I wanted it. I also feel like I shouldn't have to upgrade for the Pick Up feature. I have the REmote Sl25 and that has been killing me. Yea the racks are a nice feature but on my SL25 I don't see the on/off button and sometimes with other Live effects I dont see the on/off button listed on the SL25 for auto midi control. Is that a bug or what. I mean some I can see others I can't. EQ8 very nice love it and it has the on/off button showing. New Saturator very cool how you can control the waveshaper. Yea the PRO meters are nice but I've gotten used to not having them and since I'm on a 12in PB I like the extra space.

Sampler I haven't fully learned and haven't been able to use it to its fullest. Could anyone drop a few presets to check out like some of the season beta testers.

Also, the tutorial section says there should be some rack presets, but I have none. It would be helpful to see how a few racks are set up, so that I can learn them better. Perhaps some of the older beta users could post a few racks? Trackteam or Covert Ops? :)

xzusa8ky,

please see the comment in the anouncement of 6.0b1
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43178

Furthermore I strongy recommend to take some time and look through the beta forum cause there are many thread where we answered Live 6 related questions.

Very quickly before bed...

1. Warp multi-mic drum kit. (VERY important for me)

2. Check single/dual core performance.

3. New metering

4. LOOKED at (but unfortunately didn't use) Racks.

Now I wanna see how the new browser affects me.

Play with the sampler

And read about the nifty little bits and bobs all you 'beta numero uno' snobs found! :D
