I just upgraded to 5 so I can get 6 free..... Todays my first day with 6 beta 13, and it is gonna take some getting used to. I can't find instrument presets except in the swirly arrow thing. and what the hell is freezing.....
I just wanted the new meters.... I'm sure tomorrow will be better. Guess I'll actually have to read the f'ing manual on this round.

It's been said that Live 6 is what Live 5 should have been plus some extras like racks, dual core support, automap for many devices, EQ8, etc. 6 isn't bloat, it's refined.

Break it now or forever hold your rants. I'm very much looking forward to the initial reactions of the latest beta circle.

nah it isnt too complex because you can still work with the newer versions in the same ways as you can in the earlier versions, if you were so inclined.

Just started with the beta. My first reaction is that the graphics performance is way better with higher cpu load. Envelopes draw better, zooming is easier, and moving clips in arrange is great. Nice additions to Saturator and Operator. Meters are a nice addition, and the preferences UI is great. Wish I could speak to multi-core support, but I'll get back to you on that one

Now the stuff I need to get used to...
- Sampler isn't "jiving" with me. Too many panes, too many things to learn all at once. I'm gonna give it time, of course.
- Racks are intersting, but I'm not sure yet how to use them. I suppose it would have been helpful to follow all the previous discussions with the initial beta thread, but since I didn't have the beta, I didn't read them. So now I'm going thru all the newbie-ness. Again, I'll give it time, although I must say that racks will be useful...just not sure how to use them yet.
- File management is a bit bizarre. Still figuring it out.

So my initial feeling is that I'd get the upgrade for sure, but I'm not sure if I'll buy Sampler yet...feel free to help me understand why I should. As for the boxed version - I'm still on the fence - I neither have room for 5gb of samples, nor do I want to buy samples unless I can clearly hear how good they are. And if I don't buy Sampler, why should I get the samples?

Anyways, I'm very excited. No crashes yet. Looking forward to the release, and to doing my best to break L6 during the beta period.

live 5 is by far the best design user interface for any program i have ever used. big call i know, but within one day of going through tutorials i was able to make a track that i was really pleased with. there isn't another music program i could pick up that quickly and produce something i was happy with.

Has anyone noticed a significant difference in performance (stability, CPU and RAM use) from version 4 to 5 to 6?

Yes. I have 80% more power on my dual g5

Exactly. Live certainly is more complex, but you don't need to use all the new features if you don't want to.

Live is the easiest program to use out of the seqs, and I'd probably say the most effective.

Best to stay of the weed when your setting up your racks though - can get very confusing

agreed. the most annoying to me is that you can't resize the "chain" zone.
i wish there was a shortcut for the "hide" button.

but then, these little boxes are soooooo powerful....
