i just got a email from the man himself saying that i could not sell operator.what a crock of shit.they just lost a customer.assholes!!!!!

thats weird...plenty of people have sold their operator licenses already, no ?

thats what i thought as well.i bought them seperately,but robert is trying to tell me that if i sell operator i must do it as a live/operator deal.its not even the stupid fucking 99 dolllars that concerns me,its the fact that this company is turning into capalist pigs.no problem.im out.

Where are you based? I'm sure such restrictions are illegal under EU law. And since Ableton are in Germany, they should know this...

it does seem a little like rigging the game...

pay extra for the synth, but then you've got to sell it as a whole package? even tho its not sold as such ?

Other people have sold their licenses, and I don't see any logic to this situation.

Since I can't buy it from you, I guess I'll have to buy it from Ableton, fuck that. Fuck Sampler too. I can get a 3rd party sampler that I can sell if I don't really like, there are plenty of other soft synths too.

Don't buy it if you think you need to sell it. Cos you shouldn't expect to be able to sell it.

Transferring licenses is a common ordeal and people have done it before with Live licenses. They'll even let John sell his Live license, but not Operator seperately? There's nothing in that business plan than to get more money from users, I see reason than to make a piddly $150 sale. There's a chance that John would purchase Operator again in the next few years.

I am a Live fanboy, big time, I'm shocked they'd do this, they've always been uber cool about re-installs and working with customers. The money doesn't bother me, I can spend $150 on Operator, I can spend whatever I want, I'm just too stubborn to turn around and buy it from Ableton now.

I will not buy Sample for this reason, I do not buy gear that has no resale value, especially not one that's basically overpriced.

Such pettiness amongst users really bothers me.

Give me one good reason why they should allow a user buy a serial code, and then sell it to someone else, and potentially still use that same serial code in their own Live?

i am betting it is because your operator activation is tied into your live activation.

i notice in the beta you get a different serial to test sampler, but i don't remember operator being that way when 5 was in beta.

i think they tied the authorization scheme together. ie. if i knew your operator unlock code i could use it to unlock live 5 if i did not already own it.

i can see where they are coming from though, why would someone want to buy operator from you instead of them, unless they are not a valid registered legal live 5 user?

edit: maybe i should make this clearer, they probably do not want anyone using (buying) operator or sampler if they did not buy live 5.

well maybe I went over the top criticising others for moaning about this. But Ableton is one of the very few successful software companies I know of who pay such attention to their users.
Robert sustains such great interest in reaching out to users, getting involved in the forum and maintaining a passion for Live. You don't get that sort of support anywhere. Most founding members of such firms have cashed in long ago and have left the company to be handled by bought-in cheap developers and marketing people. I'm going to upgrade Live purely because of the sincere effort the company goes to.

Seriously bugs me if they are accused of stealing from their users.
