Using hardware in Ableton? Impossible task?

Hi all
Some great posts in this forum but hope you can help on this one:
Using EMU 1820M soundcard with Ableton and a Midex 8 for Midi.
I want to record my hardware synths, i have everything routed so i can record but the latency when audio is recorded in Ableton leaves a gap at the beginning, i have tried changing the delay compensation feature but this doesnt always help beause it throws the rest of the warp markers out compared to a soft synth recording.
This has always been an issue and the only way i have got no latency is by using cubase as it seems to utilise the midex midi interface and stops any latency when recorded, but i really dont like cubase's workflow!!
I want to make good use of my hardware synths and grooveboxes so any help would be much appreciated!!
Thanks people!!
