Are the preamps better on the 400? That's what i hear. What other differences are there. If they are equally alike i might just get a 400.

I got my 400 right down to 48 samples, went pretty well..

If you giging and doing some recording i recomend the 400 for size factor.

If being used for studio purpose then possible the 800 for the sheer amount of inputs it has!!

You'll never go wrong with RME :D

Does the 400 come with rack ears for a 19" rack?

Digitally controlled pre-amp gain is still weird to me. I don't like that there is no dedicated headphone volume control either. I don't like that it's $1000.

If they made something like this that could be used with and expresscard + PCI, they would have me. A FW 400 box doesn't cut it for me.

the pres on the fireface's are weak -- that goes for 400 and 800. you are much better off getting something like the echo audiofire 12 (which is half the price but equal d/a) and buying pres on their own.

i heard the pres were actually pretty good.....

how can you compare this unit to the 828 from motu?

there was a thread about this and i remember reading that people preferred motu in sound from A/B tests...
