Does anyone show a link saying when they expect this thing to come out? I saw a link saying the Core 2 Duo ones are due soon.
I'd like to see some kind of article on ETA.

we really are so far from this its not even funny. Think about how long it takes for laptops to catch up with desktops. We will be lucky to see quad cores in mac pro's by the end of the year. Do you have any idea how long it will take to make its way into a laptop.
Plus, when it comes to laptops, you cant just swap stuff here and there. There are a mllion factors, the biggest one being HEAT.

I suspect it's a year off. They need the Santa Rosa and the die shrink (I forget the codename but it has 6MB cahce and is manufactured to the 45nm scale) for this to realistically happen.
Core 2 Duo is dual core like the Core Duo. It's the full "Core" architecture though not a bumped up pentium M this time though.

The Core 2's are busitng out right now. Last nite I went through the big notebook manufacturers (Dell/HP/Sony/Asus/Acer/Prostar/etc... they all had Core 2's available. Not Apple though.
By March the FSB is to be increased to 800mhz. This is what I'm trying to hold out for, as well as for re-designs/refreshes of existing notebook designs. Right now they're just replacing the chips, but eventually they need to change their hardware designs to accomodate more RAM and such...
good times!

PC has had Core 2 Duo for a while now.
Looks like Apple is lagging behind again, as usual.
I couldn't help it. Just HAD to get that little jab in there.

Using live to make radio documentaries

I work for a talk radio station in Ireland, been using pro tools for all major production work while using live 4 for the spots and jingles.
Now I’m making the jump and dumping pro tools from our system and going full time with live 5. Got 4 radio docs to deliver before Christmas so we will see if I miss PT in the next few weeks.
fingers crossed

No way, Quad-Cores in laptops is a few years off yet, surely? Laptops are constrained by heat issues, they are bad enough as it is.

Well for notebooks only a little while; Merom was officially anounced Aug 28th, and has been trickling in ever since.

But yes it's true, Apple is behind the curve currently.
And I also think QuadCore notebooks are at least another year off, personally.
