Controlling clips from another track?

Does anyone know if this is a future possibility?:
I want to be able to modulate a clip like i would with a controller (ie:loop range or sample start time..) but from another track, not having to assign a controller by hand. Sometimes i dont have a controller plugged in for example. So say the clip is 2 bars, i would like to modulate it over 16 bars with a midi clip, without having to do it in the arrange screen.
Does this make any sense?
I don't know a way of assigning controllers in Live without physically moving a fader or knob. Any ideas? Or should i just RTFM?
