I read an article in Future Music about this bad boy:
http://www.samsung.com/Products/UltraMo ... 000SEA.asp
and they ran ableton on it pretty well for just DJing purposes (a few audio tracks and effects etc)
was curious to what people think of this and what do people use other than your basic laptop to run ableton in a live situation (if any)? I know some of the problem with the acceptance of DJing with computers is the computer being in the DJs face...I think with a more compact setup this might be solved...either that or just look pretty fucking cool and lessen the load i have to carry around.
this with a monotouchlive or jazzmutant lemur would look pretty damn hot.
what do you guys think?

Chuck Norris runs Live without a computer.
I saw Pitch Black last week, 3 laptops sitting out and they didn't look at them at all. Music keyboard, a mixer and lots of practice. They could've used little devices like that, but it didn't matter.
There are people here who use palmtops for fun.

for djing in live it would work fine based on the specs and the write up in FM. as i portable option sweet. but you really need a totally hands free control option, which it a big ask. im not sure if the screen might be just a little to small. i can definately see potential.

Samsung q1 have low resolution: 7” WVGA (800 x 480)
I think the new VGN-UX280P, its the best option with cpu 1.2ghz ! and 1024x768 : )
Bad point 4.5"
You can run here correctly monotouchlive, using dual output, included in this 2 machines, can but i no think the cpu have the power.
Anyway sony its abslutly expensive comapred with q1,..................
This can be fun have super nano portable system for play music, : )

Well, after talk a little with the guy form FM who write article, he say run ok ableton, but due to poor 900mhz from now micropcs not really great option.
He tellme its betetr wait to 2007 for the new umpc, and i think that its correct.
I thin on the mdlle of 2007 we see some low voltage core duo cpus, on micro pc.
Anyway not really sure, new samsung 1 anounced, and use very very low cpu micro VIA, good for multimedia, etc etc, and very low power usage.
I think we need wait more 1 year for have really powerfull umpc !
Thankyou to Chris Barker form FM for the info : )

Indeed, Palm TX and Bhajis Loops is the ultimately mobile music solution!

Bhajis Loops is such a hot program. There's something zen about the sample editor. Chopping up samples with a stylus is so much more fun than mousing around on a laptop.

LOL in his second photo peeddrroo looks like he's trying to steal the coins!
Now I'm imagining a killer Ableton Live pinball machine with MIDI CCs connected to the plunger, the tilt sensors, etc.

dont tempt me, i've been thinking how this would be possible with using cv's...as a pinball machine uses solenoids and they need a voltage...
but for now work as already begun on the next project...a special controller designed with live 6 in mind!
pedals, steering wheel and gearshift with all still be fully working!
