Hello everyone,

First of all I have no clue if this is the right place to post this so sorry if it is.

I have always loved the movie "Scarface" for so many reasons, but one of them (wiered one too) is the bass sound in the main theme music of movie... I was wondering if anyone has any clue to obtain that sound or a very similar one? Please, I need it.

Update: Here is the link to the synth & bass sound i'm after : http://www.filefactory.com/file/0394e7/ . I'm even just after similar sounds...

Cheers, Greg

sample it then filter out any artifacts and build it back up again.

So your saying, sample it directly from the movie? mmmm, could be done but i'd only have just a few keys. Thx for the tip :D !!!

Anyone else got any tips or even know how to get the sound?

snippet = short piece

can you post a bit of the music you want to recreate? I take it you don't have it sampled yet, so no. If you could sample it, someone might be able to work on cleaning it up for you, or making it from scratch.

Oki here is the snippet : http://www.filefactory.com/file/0394e7/ (sorry for the site, i dont have any were else to host it)

Basicly the sounds i'm looking for are both the bass and the synth. Anything that sounds like those two would be wicked!

Thank you

that's a really epic classic synth sound, maybe you should rename this thread, 'Name This Synth Sound' or something like that. there are some pretty incredible people here who could probably name the synths or give you a direction on what kind it is or how to recreate it with other synths.

Try editing out the gunshots with a volume envelope, maybe where one measure has a gunshot another won't so they'll fill in the gaps. Then load a bunch of them up in different Simplers. Or just take one beat of it, one long note and just work with that, playing it in Simpler.

Very cool sound though, classic. I'd like to tweak on it in Live too (along with another 500 other things I want to try with Live.) Nice find!

Thank for the feedback DeadlyKungFu!

By the way, what your hear isn't Gunshots, it's a snare drum  .
I would sample it but then the problem would be that I wouldn't have the full key scale , which I want.

I mean, if there are sounds that sound close enough thats fine with me... I just love the "80s" touch that it has, not too mention as you said the fact that it is very epic!

Too all those INCREDIBLE people, who can find me the synth & bass sound PLEASE!

The Scarface soundtrack was composed by Giorgio Moroder
(http://musicthing.blogspot.com/2004/12/ ... e-did.html). As you can see from the picturte in that link a lot of his synth sounds were generated by a massive (and expensive) modular synth, so there's a good chance the sound may be very difficult to reproduce using a fixed routing synthesizer.

Of course if you're just looking for an eighties style sound, have a look into FM synthesis, it was very popular throughout the eighties

These used to be free, but these soundfonts really cover the vintage ground well I think.

Thank you al for the info!

But I feel as though there has to be now a days something that can simulate the same kind of sounds. I evean heard this plug-in for Fruity Loops that had a bass that sounded something like it, (un)fortunatly I have a macbook so I can't use FL.

For the soundfonts, I'm not too sure I know what these are? Are they plug-ins? Do they work under mac and in Ableton or Reason?

dafunk, i recently got into using some soundfonts as well.

think of them like a multi-sample library format.

you need a soundfont capable sampler to load them in.

on my ibook i am using vsamp from http://www.vsamp.com/

its universal binary and not expensive. seems to work pretty well. i like it. it can import soundfonts. they have a demo too, so check it out.

Still not sure what soundfonts are though  ... tell me ejectorset, does vsamp work with Ableton or Reason?

And VSamp can import soundfonts? I'll have to check it out!
