sending PC messages FROM Live TO an external device

Hi,
I'm trying to control another looping device using Live.
- My goal is to have a song entirely pre-arranged in Live, but the set will ONLY contain midi clips that control the other device (record start, record stop, pan, reverse, mute tracks, erase, etc).
- The only audio running through Live will be the inputs from the external device, where I can then add Live's plugins to the master channel.
- I already am very experienced at sending PC and CC messages to the external device via foot controller, and controlling Live with it it.
- The external device only responds to PC or CC messages.
So, on paper it seems like Live could easily do this...but I've run into a few snags:
- You can only edit midi notes inside a midi clip. Again, external device accepts only PC & CC. I could investigate a little conversion program ...?? Anyone know one for Intel Macs?
- So, PC message it is...BUT...a little experimentation has revealed that a single PC message only gets sent at the beginning of a launched clip. On the external device, in order to record I send a PC message, and to stop recording I send the same PC message at the end of the phrase (i.e. it toggles). So...using Live as the controller, I assume I'd need to do this one of two ways: 1) make the midi clip the length I want, and loop it two times or 2) make the midi clip the length I want, duplicate the clip to the next scene down have the next scene fire when the midi clip is ended.
You'd think either of those would work, but they don't
First, the PC message doesn't get sent at the beginning of every loop iteration, JUST when the midi clip is fired. Is this true or am I missing something??? So option 1) is out.
Second, some more testing revealed that in a vertical column of midi clips, the PC message is sent when the next scene down is launched, however, when an identical midi clip is encountered (sending the same PC message), the PC message is NOT sent....Option 2) is out.
Huh? I'm confused. I've found no way to toggle an external device with Live via PC messages..
Is there some OTHER way ???
