LiVE 5 (all versions) cannot find my VST plug ins..crashes

Hi Guys
Hope someone can help me. Sorry for essay but rather put the whole story down
Mac G4 Powerbook, OSX 10.4.7, LIVE 5.0 & 5.2.2 loaded.
This was all working up to 2 days ago until I was installing Pro Tools M Powered. It had issues with some fee insruments I had loaded a while ago.
I thought best way was to start fresh, so I reformatted my Powerbook with 10.4.3 as new install and updated to 10.4.7 by software update. I installed Pro Tools first and got that working. I loaded Peak 5.2 and got that working. I loaded LIVE 5.2 from the website and it installed ok. I loaded vst plugins to the usual Library/Audio/Plugins/vst folder as instructed.
I started up live 5.2, entered licence and went to activate plug in folder. It opened up preference screen. I set AU to on without issue. When I tried to switch VST plugin system folder to YES, it did the spinning wheel for 15 seconds and quit. It did the same for Custom VST plugin folder. I tried a few times but same each time. I reloaded my original 5.0 Live to see if it was a 5.2 bug but also did it.
There is no issue with my vst plugins as my other programs can see the vst plugins
HELP please
