Tempo Automation Sounds Bad.

I've just tried tempo automation for the first time, both with a full mix on "complex" and with a small multitrack project with each clip set to its respective "best warp algorithm".
I have to say I was less than impressed both times. I could hear audible clicking at each tempo change in the curve I drew. A faint, but prominent enough pop, pop, pop coinciding with each point in the curve. Even small changes in tempo were ruined by this. In addition, the resulting clip sounds like...it-is-be-ing-changed-in-tem-po. It sounds stuttery, and then of course, the natural warbling effect imprinted on most anything I've stretched in live.
I've only tried changing tempo in the past by selecting the global tempo window and pressing the up and down arrow keys on my keyboard. That yeilds similar results.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to get a fluid sound?
Oh, and I tried the test in Live 5 and the Demo of Live 6. There was no difference between the two. I mention this because results like these are not going to please individuals who get Live 6 thinking they are going to automate tempo changes for video sequences.
