Just got a new Emu 0404 USB 2 interface, looked really good on paper.
Unfortunately the latency sucks... Its replacing an Echo Indigo, as my cardbus slot died, but I dont have time to get it repaired before my next gig.

I've tried ASIO4ALL aswell, but no joy. The set I was playing live with happily for most of the year is causing clicks pops all over the place.

Anyone know of a good alternative with low latency? Or has USB always got latency probs? I dont know, when my Echo card refused to work at my last gig, luckily someone had an M-Audio keyboard with on-board sound, USB, which worked ok.

if you have the option to only install the barebone wdm driver (without the included asio, because having two asio drivers will cause glitch. even more so with the needy emu (partner of creative).

try,, search for "asio" files & folders and remove all asio "DLL" files (loc in windows/system32) asociated with this card.

you might need a registry cleaner to remove everthing clean. i renstalled windows fresh for my audigy 2 zs pcmcia.

try asio4all now. fingers crossed!

Edit: you might have better luck with early version asio4all, im using v1.8. lighter on cpu. and maybe try update intel chipset & bios.

I might try doing a clean windows install, need to do that soon anyway.

Otherwise, I may try another interface and take the Emu back. If anyone has any tips on good USB (or firewire) interfaces with low latency below around £200 would be good to hear.

I have no experience with the 0404 but I do have both an 1820 and a 1212 I haven't had any problems with either one. how are you using it? what is your latency set at? are you synching with any external gear? are you recording audio in?

No audio in, no external sync .. tried loads of settings, even the large settings cause jumps and clicks. All i'm doing is loading the same set I've been working on and playing live with all year - using the Echo Indigo... gonna try a windows re-install, hopefully that will help. Got a gig in 3 weeks!

bear in mind that the 1202 is pcmcia and the 1820 pci, so not really comparable to the USB 0404.

I'd say reinstall windows, install latest version, update, download latest drivers from emu, and give it another shot. Send an email to emu's tech support, the times I contacted them, they seemed quite good guys.

indeed, 1820 drivers at first were simply crap. after some revisions they got'em right.
