I just wanted to let you know that I have posted a short review of the Audiotrak Maya Ex card in the osxaudio.com forum.

As the review covers only OS X, here a small addition on how the card works in Windows: It doesn't ship with ASIO drivers, so using the Windows default drivers I got a latency of ~15 ms in Live and was able to use only the stereo output. However, you can get ASIO drivers for this card from usb-audio.com, but I haven't tested these yet.

For those too lazy to click the link: Under MacOS X, the card works as full six-channel output device and is giving me 2ms latency in Ableton Live. The built-in headphone output is LOUD and therefore suitable for live situations.

When you read the thread on osxaudio.com, someone posted a link where you can get it for $50 in the US.

The Maya 44 seems to be the better device than mine, as mine is 16/48kHz only, which adds an additional sample rate conversion when using the digital connection to my MiniDisc deck.

I'm not sure how useful the inputs on the Maya 44 will be. Does it only have the RCA inputs or also a digital or microphone input? My Maya Ex has digital, RCA and microphone inputs, and the device defaults to the microphone input and I cannot switch it to other inputs from OS X (could work with a customized driver).

could it be that the aureon 5.1 usb uses the same hardware?

do the maya ex and maya 44usb use the same converters?

i have a maya 44 usb and can get low latency (tho it's more like 4 in and 4ms out).

what i've never figured out tho is to route two of the outs through the headphone socket, anyone know how to do this (i'm under macosx)?? i just plug direct into the phono outs at the mo.

Stew how do you do it?

erm how do you plug speakers on it if you just want to hear some music or watch a movie?
can u output the master and use the headphones to pre listen what you are gonna mix? can u conect 2 chans on a mixer and use the mixer for prelistening?
i am between this and the audiophile firewire...

as far as i know, the headphone out is a clone of the 1/2 output.

so output the mains from 3/4, and cue/solo through 1/2

how about the mixer issue?
in other words...should i buy the maya usb?
its cheaper than the audiophile here (uk) and by cheaper i mean half price

fairly sure that the headphone out (under macosx at least) is the sum of all outs. though i should check again as i had other probs when setting up.

as for the cost i'm not sure it's half the price and if the audiophile has solid drivers there would be no decision to make (unless you need the 4 ins of the maya 44, ignore me if you talk of the 2 in 6 out related device)

the audiophile in the uk is 200 pounds when the maya is 100
its 100 to buy it from the us but i am afraif of custom taxes

the audiophile typically has a street price of 150-160

if the driver situation was clear cut (ie. m-audio could produce somat that works) then it'd be an easy decision in favour of the m-audio.

as it stands i get 3ms output latency on the maya 44, no glitches or owt like that. which is pretty good. not sure the audiophile will match that.

having said all that the maya 44 is a little cheap feeling but i guess it's cheap for a reason eh.

hm the only thing that confuses me...where do i plug the headphones? coz i only see rca outputs and not minijacks :S
