I have a little problem with my firewire solo. I want to use the cue function.

This is what i did:

i give the master the 1/2 output
i give the cue the 3/4 output.

offcource i enable the cue switches.


When i plug in my headphone in the firewire solo he gives the same sound as the master even if i push a cue button..

I have heard that you need two soundcards but if i select the FW Solo ( asio ) i cant use my onboard souncard.

can somebody tell me what i excactly have to do.

anybody?

maybe i have to buy another soundcard with 2 headphone outputs

I have a FireWire Solo & it seems to work fine with what you're asking. Have you toggled between the A/B switches next the headphone output???

A normal setup will have the audio from 1/2 going to A & 3/4 to B...

oke i just trhow my mouse to the wall because i have no a/b switch on my firewire solo. any other suggestions?

My apologies... I was thinking of my Audiophile... which i also have for performing purposes. I think what you're asking can be changed inside the M-Audio FW software. Open the Sound Card drivers & on the 'phones output' channel, select where your audio is coming from????

OK i will write here step by step what i'm doing. Maybe it's easier for you guys what i'm doing wrong.

Hardware:

In my FW Solo there are two active monitor speakers. I plugged them in the Line outputs on the rear of my FW Solo. On the front i plugged my headphone in the Headphoneoutput.

Offcourse there is a firewire connection to my laptop and the FW Solo gets his power from a adapter. My System requirements of my laptop are high enough to plug 3 FW Solo's in the laptop so that cant be a problem.

Software:

In Ableton i take 2 audiochannels. I enable in options the cue switches option. In the preferences I choose the ASIO option en enable in my output configuration the 1/2 stereo and the 3/4 stereo option. Near the mastervolumefader i choose for Cue = 3/4 and Master = 1/2. I als select the headphone button on top of the browser and turn it on on the left of the mastervolumefader.

Playing:

Now when i play a track in audiochannel 1 and want to listen to the track in Audiochannel 2 it won't work{ offcource i selected the cue button of the channel) I hear the two channels out of my monitors.

In the m-audio software is no option to select 3/4 or something.

The problem must be somewhere between the headphone output and the 3/4 option i think.


So now i hope its easier for you to help me because now you know excactly what i did.

I can't seem to find my FW Solo drivers at the moment... Doesn't it have a similair panel below your Phones output???? If so, simply select what audio output must be played on the headphones. Simple.

If not, then i'm a little stumped... I'm sure all the FW drivers have this option... i may be hallucinating though.

Sorry to say after all these replys, but you cant do headphone cueing on the firewire solo. I use to have one. Thats why i sold it at the time and bought the audiophile. m-audio doesnt do a very good job of informing you about this.

There is a chance you could set up your built in sound card and the solo as an aggregate device in OSX (if you are on OSX). Just do a search and research that. I havnt tried it like that before, but it might work.

someone interested in a firewire Solo?

i use a saffire, not solo but i have this exact problem, i have gone by the faq to cue in live 5 etc but still my headphones impacts the output of me speakers also ajusted my saffire settings and still it troubles....

yes, your audio inteface has to have multiple outputs in order to use a cuing function like that, otherwise there is no second output stream to switch to. If your interface doesn't have an A/B button next to the headphone output, then why would anyone assume it could do cuing for dj work?

In regards to aliasA's suggestion about using the aggregate driver. . I'd recommend against that. . .most pro and "prosumer" cards and applications aren't designed to use multiple soundcards of different types in the same application. . . and I've heard that the OS X aggregate device feature (designed to overcome this) doesn't provide the type of stability and low latency needed for live work. . . I'd just buy an interface made for djing instead of trying to get an interface made for solo guitar/vocal recording to function in a dj context.
