Q) Channels / Routing

Hi and thanks for the quick response to my first post BTW 
I'm using Battery2 and Nostalgia which allow you to send sounds to different channels eg. 1/2 or 3/4 etc. Typically I send a snare to a different channel for eq etc.
...and in Nostalgia I need to load instruments to different channels.
I'm not sure how to do this in Live (v6). I've seen one way over here but it seems a long way round as you need to add not only a Midi track (of course) but also an Audio track as well!!!
Is there a better way?
