I want to sync 2 or 3 laptops running Live, so that all loops on the different laptops are running in sync. Can this be done? I noticed some sync button in the midi settings, but does Live send a sync signal?

Easily done. And if you're on Macs with AirPort, it can be done wirelessly without any additional hardware or software.

Search 'sync' or 'synch' on the forum, and you'll find lots of info.

...or just have a look in the manual (for the basic sync stuff, that is).

it's simpler than that, connect 1 midi cable between each laptop, on the master turn on SYNC out, on the rest turn on SYNC IN and hit the EXT button. hit the space bar on the master and you're done.

I've done this with mac & PC, Live 5 & Live 6, no problems, and BPMs track too.
