Live 6 File Management - doesn't find "missing" files

I'm frustrated and confused by the new File Management system in Live 6:
1. It tells me that files in my Library (located in various folders in users/~/music/ableton) are "missing," which seems odd because a) they are in the Library, and b) Live 6 somehow knows that enough about them to tell me they are missing. (How can it know the name of something that is "missing" anyway?). Why does it do this?
2. When I click on the Manage Library button, it takes FOREVER to complete. And when I manually replace a given "missing" file, it is also super super slow. Is this normal? If so, Ableton really needs to improve this system.
BTW, this is on an iMac Core Duo, 2.0 GHz, 2.0 G RAM, running OS 10.4.8.
