btw is whats the reset, so I can clear out all the sequences and garbage

just in case you're going to ask, i didn't get a manual but yes i'm going to download one, in the mean time whats the story on the hacked o/s and where can i get it plus the best info on it, and if you're in a really good mood you could tell me what's the diff between the hacked o/s and the latest os by akai

so is the paid upgrade worth it, I mean i'm sure it's worth the 30bucks but is it really worth it or is the 3.06 just as good and all i really need???

one more thing, does your 1000 get hot, if so do you ever have any problems because of that. I used to have an eps 16plus and an Asr 10 that both got hot and then started doing crazy shit

re: repeating notes...sometimes i get this when 'full levels' is on, but only minor and never when i'm not in full level mode. is it a particular pad? if so check the mpc forums for a fix, its pretty easy.

re:heat. no it doesn't get hot, and i leave it on all the time.

re:new os. its totally worth it for the simple fact that the file heirarchy actually makes sense. the old akai way doesn't even bother to alphabetize your shit. there might still be a free beta on that site if you want to check it out.

i downloaded both os, but what i'm saying is is it good enough to just install version 3.06 thats the free one or should I do 4.0?

i'm still on a free beta i installed a few months ago, so i'm actually not sure what has changed in the officially unofficial $30 release...other than a hidden game of pong (seriously!). the most important things for me are:
1: grid edit mode. it's non-existent in the official os
2: the file heirarchy change. the original akai os doesn't even alphabetize, let alone organize by filetype.
3: the way chopping/slicing works in the new os is easier and makes much more sense.
plus lots of little useability changes that make working with the mpc much nicer. i'm going to pay for the upgrade soon, because the guy def. deserves the money, i just haven't had time to think about it yet...

as far as the chopping goes , does the os you have do the chopping by transients, i'm wondering if that is one of the differences between the os's, I know that one of the features of the paid os is 'automatic chromatic sample loading across all of the pads, don't know about how useful

slicing, zooming in and out, and adjusting the start and end points of the slices is dead easy so that's all i really use. oh shit, i just checked out auto slice and it works great. really easy to adjust transient detection, then like usual the slices can be output as individual files automapped to the pads, or as a patched phrase. i don't really use the patched phrase feature. my main use is i've got all my breaks from vinyl loaded on the hard drive, and i just scroll through those, and find hits i want and cut them out of the break, then layer em together to build new programs.

fyi:

the mpc 1000 is notorious for its poorly designed pads, for some reason akai decided it was a good idea to re-design them using a cheap square slice of carbon raised about a millimeter above the sensor held together by rubber cement. If your pads go dead, dont be surprised. Ive done open heart surgury on my mpc about 5 times now, and it still doesnt work properly. Its really a bitch to attempt to fix, but i got it down to a science opening the machine and prying the rubber pad out. still havent quite figured out a good way yet to getting it working normal, and believe me, ive tried so many things and yes ive checked out mpc forums too, i am one of the posters on the first page of the "fix your dead pad" thread... i think its just time to order a whole new pad bank from akai .....those damn bastards
