mic for field percussion?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good percussion mic? I find myself wanting to record lots of random percussive sounds (i.e. banging on hand railings, metal AC ducts, 50 gallon drums, etc) and I'm not sure what mic would be best. I would probably lug my macbook around with me in a backpack w\ my firebox interface so I don't need a special mic that plugs into a field recorder. Just a good cartoid mic for weird percussive sounds. Any help would be appriciated thanks!
