im not interested in the swap. just want to hear some first hand review of cubase 4 and all is newis....

Here's a mini C4 review...

Overall, pretty good. CPU is much higher than I'd expect on a Mac Pro.
The new VI's from Virsyn are very good, Halion1 is pretty good, lots of
samples similar to a Yamaha motif. The built in effects are also a little better, but not nearly up to Logic's yet. The guitar simulator isn't even close. Overall, it's getting to the same price range as Logic, but doesn't have the polished plugins Logic does. The instrument tracks are a big improvement for work flow, there's also a Kore-like preset database lookup which is also quite irritating if you want to just pull presets down from simple dropdown. It sounds very good though.

Pluses -- if you already know Cubase, it's an improvement and runs on IntelMacs. The notation editor is a little improved, but still a far cry from
a real notation program. The interface is a little cleaner, but still recognizable as Cubase.

Downside -- will not load older VSTs well, or sometimes at all. Even Orca from Fxpansion.
No AU support at all. Older Cubase plugins (Vi's) are gone.

All that said, I have to say Logic is the more powerful DAW in this price range. I can't really think of much Cubase can do that Logic can't -- just some beat matching audio. If a DAW is getting up into the 900+ dollar range, it has to tackle Logic head on in every count, but C4 just doesn't.
Plus it worries me that we're going to see a pointless VST/AU battle ahead...
