Is there a manual for remote sl in connection with live?

I found nothing where the use and functions of a remote sl in live is described!
(Like the mackie-part in the manual)
Is there anything?

+1!
Isn't kung-fu an expert on this? We should get some documentation for us "slow bus" types on the wiki.

You'll find something with the SL installation, or on the novation site.

Do you think of this?

Hm, it's not very detailed!

Watch the video demos of the SL which you can download. They showed me much of what I needed to know.
Also, take a look through the pdf SL documentation. All you need to know on the Ableton end is to set the midi inputs and outputs in preferences to the SL.
And make sure your remote control input/output is set to port 2 and your "track" button is set to ON for port 1, sync set to port 1 (though I don't think it does anything) and remote set to ON for port 2.

dunno that I'm an expert but I'm more than happy to be able to contribute back to so many people who have taught me TONS on music production and middle/far east diplomacy
if you can play midi notes into Live, or see midi activity then you should be able to automap.
A real bitch with the SL is that the text in the Control Surfaces settings box is a DIFFERENT device than in the midi in/out boxes. In the novation documentation they actually added a 'sorry' for this. Don't apologise, fix it or make the differences more obvious, argh!!
For the SL, use the [2] device in the control surfaces section, in the regular boxes use the text without the [2], or maybe it's (2), either way, you get the point. With a BCR and an SL I have USB_DEVICE, USB_DEVICE(2), USB_DEVICE[2] and other stuff in there, all too non-descript.
One cool tip on setting this stuff up is that you can keep the MIDI options box open while you tweak the buttons, the settings are applied right away, once I found that out, it cut waay down on setup time.
Ive had tooooo much practice with this because sometimes my BCR is setup, sometimes just the SL, sometimes both, sometimes none, I've reset these too many times.
Another good tip is to make a .txt file on your desktop and write down what settings to use. Too many boxes checked bogs down the reaction time and can cause clicks when moving the faders with a mouse.

I'm starting to wonder if things are quite different with the SL/Live under OSX than with windows. I don't see any of that usb stuff. Just remote sl ports. Pretty straight forward over here. Didn'r realize it showed up so differently with windows. Hope my advice still helps if your on windows!

I checked again, on PC it's
REMOTE SL MIDI[2] - automap
REMOTE SL MIDI - midi and non-automapped controls
It's different on a Mac??? <shakes fist furiously>

Good info. One thing I have been wondering is, when using the assignable buttons and knobs, is there a way to easily create multiple settings you can flip through? For example, assign the 8 bottom knobs to control a delay effect, then punch a button and the same knobs now control some assigned synth parameters?

mouseless browsing is something users have asked for for since day one. I think the best thing to do is to make some of your own templates and as you .als evolves you assign your own. it's a workaround, works for some, not others.

Ah yes templates. Guess I need to start figuring those out now

I haven't looked at these since I got the SL, then jumped on the automap bandwagon, but they're really cool. if automap didn't come out i'd be a HUGE fanboy of template groups.
this is from memory from a WHILE ago, this will get you started
a template is a 'stack' of presets, presets that are numerically in order, you go from preset to preset, when you get to the last preset in the template group it jumps back to #1
go to an empty preset with a number of presets
hit TEMPLATE
position = this preset is number 'x' in the template group
size= how many presets are in the template group
so... your template has 5 presets, presets # 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, they have to be in order. the size is 5.
tapping the outside grey buttons makes the SL jump from preset to preset.
some of this may have changed in the last year since I've tried it, ymmv. my quick $0.02.
oh, and with template groups you can make your own text for each button, UBER cool. this is best done with the PC/Mac editing software that's always worked GREAT for me.

and what makes this really cool now with automap v2 is that you can actually change to any one of these templates or template groups instantly from automap and use all of the sliders and knobs as assignable controls, and you can have your own labels set up in the templates so that you can assign things to knobs that are already labels (ex.delay, beat repeat, etc.). Then at any time, you can switch back to automap with the twist of a knob and it works again. Beats the hell out of just having those eight assignable knobs without labels. It's the perfect combo..... well, almost perfect. There is one bug, which is that when you switch back to automap, value-scaling and pick-up don't work, it jumps. However, there is a workaround for non intel mac users. When you switch back to automap, hit the page up and then back down on the top right of the SL. Pick-up etc, then works. Unfortunately this fix doesn't work for my poor macbook. Novation said they have reported it to ableton after I reported it to novation, so hopefully it gets fixed.
Also, it's worth noting that you can also assign templates to the top row of buttons on the SL.
Happy Soft-Labeling,
grb
PS dkf, actually the midi setup does look pretty much the same w/ the photo. Put the fist away....

Well, thanks guys!
Didn't expect to get that much feedback!
Well, at the moment I don't own a sl, yet.
Was just interested what you can control with it automatically in live besides plugins (compared to a mackie).
thanks
