Stutter when triggering clips

Folks,
Just started using Ableton 6.0 for Dj'ing. Whilst practicing i'm getting random cut outs lasting half a second or so. Its usually when i trigger new clips. I have a new duel core MacBook and expected it to be able to run fine on this?
I've quit all other programs and it still happens when my CPU meter shows 20%?!?
Apologies if this simpy me being stupid but i can't think of a reason why..
