drag and drop mp3 into a6 and audio disables

when i drag and drop MP3 files into A6 it disables audio of the set ...... i hear nothing - not just from the recently imported file, but also from all the other files which were playing fine up until importing the mp3
in 5 it would convert the mp3 to WAV and all was fine - do i have something set up in the preferences wrong? i ve had a look but cant figure it out...
