Just got deep into the new absynth functions tonight

Its a really nice update to me.

I did not run it in Live yet.


any opinions, known bugs ect ?..

Would you recommend upgrading from 3? That's were I'm at right now. Got it with the NI-versary. So I haven't really explored it yet. Or should I hold on to my 99 Euro?

Oh yeah, the update's worth it (but then again, you knew I'd say that )

Seriously, there's some really cool stuff happening here. Wave morphing; the ability to have subfolders in your library (I've got all the Architecture waveforms sitting in subfolders in my wave folder- 3 will choke on more than 256, and doesn't allow subfolders), the controller page; the ability to load either a frequency shifter, a ring modulator OR a filter in any non oscil module (the effects module's excluded here as well); separate send volumes for each channel in the effects module; sync granular mode... the list goes on and on.

Yep - I watched that and got interested in upgrading. But then I wanted to hear from someone who really knows the synth.

Yep - I know you're a NI-guy... But then again - experience is what I'm asking for. I've only scratched the surface of Absynth 3, but it seems that 4 might be worth it...

I'm in the same situation here. have hardly used absynth 3 yet.

So far, I haven't been able to find any reviews of absynth 4 on the net. I was wondering if it's significantly more user friendly, absynth 3 wasn't exactly easy to learn and ergonomic, from what I've seen so far.

the step sequencer for the envelopes looks nice to me....

Well, I am pretty new to absynth - always had an eye on it, but jumped on it with absynth4.

I think as ew state the possibility to freely assign modules (filter/mod/shaper) is a great extension. Wavemorphing and sync granular promise some potential. The new interface is - in terms of functionality - also a step forward.

On the other hand (at least on Macs) the interface is slow and the new browser lakes the ability to re-save/overwrite files (so that you could assign your attributes and rating and color). So somehow I feel like - well, so why is it there - if I cannot use it for my needs. Is it a synth or a preset player and preset-browser? (that I cannot edit template waveforms - well, I donot know why - of course I know that this affects lots of presets - but that is my problem! - I could live with that, but that I cannot overwrite and organize presets - well, ....)
Also on Mac with Live I have problems with multi-channel out.

I think it is a great synth and a great update (hoping that the next update will fix those few, but severe short-comings).

i can't wait to upgrade, i have been waiting for an upgrade to absynth for a while. video looks pretty sweet. let us know how it runs with live 6

I've been eyeing Absynth for a while now, but have heard it's difficult to learn. Does it include tutorials, or are there sites that can help get a newbie started?

I recommend the Absynth 3 DVD.

It's not that difficult to learn if you understand the fundamentals of synthesis. If your understanding is more intuitive, it might be a little tricky for you. The english manual was translated from german and it's got some not-so-clear sentences.

I'd say, though, with regards to it being difficult to learn, that the general usability of the program has advanced by leaps and bounds since 3.

I would say the update is definitely, absolutely, worth it. I was somewhat sceptical reading the new features list, but I bought it anyway, and I think they really went above and beyond what I expect from an update. It's excellent.

I do find it mildly depressing, though. As I was saying to a friend, you can open any random patch and hold down any random key and what you'll hear is better than anything I ever made.

So they really stayed close to the German version of the manual

Maybe both versions (the English and the German) were translated from the Hungarian or so???
