Recording and Listening to Simplified

Hi peeps..!
Basically, I am trying to get the software going with my two mics (I sings and play Guitar), with my M-Audio MobilePre audio interface - Computer.
Um, not doing any mixing (yet) just simple recording. I want to ideally record both the Guit. and lyrics at ths same time (mic positioning) stuff only.. (and not delve into to much layering and mixing and stuff..(for now).
I was able to plug it all in Sing/ play through the two mics and hear myself via earphones pluged into the mic of the audio interface...
But Haveing a bit of trouble RECORDING... (I thought I did record some stuff, but then could not listen to it..)
So, If I did record it.. HOW CAN I LISTEN TO IT..? Shit that sounds fundamental..! Oh.. well
Um, then as I fooled around I got to a screen of my so called recorded material only to find NO waves (where there should most probably have been waves) Music spikes peaks and valleys..! etc.
Um.. I'm going to read up..
I did do the bit in the Preferences Audio Tab and pick my Audio interface name..!
I have one REal mic XLR (the Big ones) and one tiny little sterio condenser mic that plugs into the small stereo line.... (I am trying to make due with it..
Any help for Mr. Simplton would be sweet,,
